How is the gold rate in Saudi Arabia determined?+
Gold trades globally in US dollars per troy ounce. The Saudi Arabia price is that international spot price converted into SAR at the live exchange rate, then expressed per gram. Retailers add their own margin on top of this benchmark.
Why does the Saudi Arabia gold price change when spot gold has not moved?+
Because the conversion runs through the exchange rate. If SAR weakens against the US dollar, the local gold price rises even though the dollar price of gold is unchanged. Currency movement is often the larger driver of local price changes.
What is the difference between 24K, 22K, 21K and 18K gold?+
Karat measures the proportion of pure gold in an alloy. 24K is 99.9% pure and used for bars and coins. 22K is 91.67% pure, 21K is 87.5% and 18K is 75%. Lower karats are harder and more durable, which is why jewellery is rarely made from 24K.
Do all cities in Saudi Arabia have the same gold rate?+
The underlying metal price is identical everywhere, since it comes from the same international benchmark. Small differences between cities reflect local retail margins, transport, storage costs and competition between dealers.
Does the price shown here include making charges?+
No. These are bullion rates for the metal itself. Finished jewellery also carries making charges, design premiums, any applicable tax and sometimes a wastage percentage, all of which are set by the individual retailer.
How often do these rates update?+
International spot data refreshes every few minutes during market hours, and local prices are recalculated immediately afterwards. Every page carries its own last-updated timestamp so you can judge freshness for yourself.
